From Castle Square to County Show: A Pembrokeshire Tradition Returns

The countdown to the Pembrokeshire County Show begins with one of the week's most cherished traditions – the ceremonial carriage drive through the streets of Haverfordwest.

At 1.00pm on Tuesday, 18 August, a beautifully presented horse-drawn carriage will leave Scotchwells Car Park and make its way along Victoria Place to Castle Square. Drawn by two magnificent Shire horses and driven by John Fletcher, the carriage will carry the County Show President and invited guests through the county town, marking the start of the annual celebrations.

On arrival at Castle Square, the party will be welcomed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Haverfordwest before enjoying the traditional stirrup cup, kindly provided by the Castle Hotel. This well-loved ceremony reflects the close and enduring relationship between the Pembrokeshire County Show, the town of Haverfordwest and the wider county.

Reintroduced last year after an absence of several years, the carriage drive once again gives residents and visitors the opportunity to share in an important part of the County Show's heritage. It provides a fitting start to show week, celebrating tradition, community spirit and the agricultural roots of Pembrokeshire before the showground opens its gates.
